Investors Seek Justice in Cambodia Over Alleged Financial Misconduct by Company Chairman

(Phnom Penh) — An investor and shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally appealed to the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia for assistance in a case involving the company’s Chairman, Yamada Taihei. The letters allege that Yamada engaged in serious breaches of trust and financial misconduct during the company’s business operations.

According to the claims, Yamada Taihei, a Japanese national, misused his position as Chairman to manipulate property purchase prices, resulting in the alleged misappropriation of around USD 4 million for personal gain and that of his associates.

The investor further alleges that Yamada made unilateral decisions that violated shareholder rights, creating fictitious business transactions and loan agreements totaling more than USD 7 million. These activities reportedly involved forging documents and diverting substantial sums of cash through a network of shell companies. Some funds were allegedly transferred abroad to a bank account held in the name of Yamada’s spouse.

Investigations suggest that Yamada may have established multiple shell companies across Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia, appointing nominees to serve as representatives while maintaining full control over their finances.

In Cambodia, authorities have already charged Yamada and his associates in at least two criminal cases, freezing several assets and bank accounts, while additional investigations remain ongoing. International inquiries into related financial crimes are also reportedly underway in countries including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States.

The investor’s letters to the Ministry of Justice stress the importance of thorough and impartial investigations by Cambodian courts to ensure justice and hold the accused accountable. The appeals also express concern over potential attempts by influential figures to interfere with legal proceedings, which could undermine the case and obstruct the proper administration of justice.
